(2) 1929 Wall Street Crash – this was the economic collapse of the USA (1) Gustav Stresemann died. The ‘Golden Age of Weimar’ died with him.

“It was the Great Depression that put the wind in Hitler’s sails”. (click me for a short clip) The Wall Street Crash in 1929 had huge consequences for Germany. US loans dried up (loans that had saved Weimar) and unemployment soared – peaking at 5.5 million. People remembered the earlier problems and once again the democratically-elected government seemed unable to cope – many turned to extremist parties. HISTORIOGRAPHY McKichan DESPITE WEIMAR’S GOLDEN AGE… “In 1929 it (Weimar) faced a disastrous economic blizzard in which much of what it had achieved was blown away.’’
