GLOBALIZATION- extending to other or all parts of the world:

Geography SS Standards: SS – – Explain how international economic activities are interdependent in the present day. SS – HS – Explain and give examples of interdependence of personal, national, and international economic activities… Literacy in SS: Determine the central ideas of a secondary source Evaluate an author’s premise and claims by challenging them with other information. I can explain globalization and give examples of products in the U.S. that come from around the world. I can determine an author’s premise or purpose in a text.

Geography I can explain globalization and give examples of products in the U.S. that come from around the world. I can determine an author’s premise or purpose in a text. 1.In your group, complete the ABC chart on globalization. (background knowledge) 2.Listen to Brad Paisley’s American Saturday Night. On the text, highlight countries that are mentioned. Circle these countries on your map. 3.Text – 100% American by Ralph Linton Divide the texts into chunks. While one person reads, others should annotate using words and images (sensory images) Focus on locating products from around the world. Circle the countries on your map. 2

Geography I can explain globalization and give examples of products in the U.S. that come from around the world. I can determine an author’s premise or purpose in a text. 4.With your group, determine what Linton and Paisley’s main premises are in their writing and/or song? (inference) Write it on the poster paper. 5.Create a visual that illustrates your conclusion. Your visual must include evidence from the texts. (synthesis) 6.Options – Time articles on globalization; map of a sweatshirt’s global journey; have students look for products at home made around the world, etc.
