Innovative Schools toolkit STRATEGIC WORKSHOP 3 Stakeholder analysis and engagement

ObjectiveSuggested Approach To Review the 3 ‘Ideas sorters’ from the last workshop Provide printed copies of the current posters OR provide full scale versions of the posters to review. Remind about the approach and give some specific examples. To raise awareness of the range of stakeholders and their involvement Identify the kinds of engagements verses the stakeholders who have engaged with them. Small group analysis To propose gaps in the stakeholder map and suggest ways in which this could be addressed Small and larger group discussions To design stakeholder engagementsThe concept of a ‘Call for ideas’ is used as the basis of a wider engagement to endorse the plan. Delegates design engagements around this ideas hunt. To implement stakeholder engagements As planned above but with the outcome by next workshop that there is a mandate to continue Workshop 3 overview

To help your visions become successful projects, you need to gather ideas from people with as many different outlooks as possible. List the different groups of people who may have an interest in your school and how it progresses (Stakeholders). Discuss how each stakeholder group can have their opinions heard Complete the stakeholder landscape template for each of your project ideas Task 1: Identifying stakeholders

Add and/or subtract stakeholder groups required for consultation in your community. ParentsCommunity leadersTeachers LearnersStudent councilsSponsors PoliceDestination schoolsFeeder schools Local residentsAlumniWeb community Local businessesLocal governmentSchool advisors Define subsets of any of the above Local charitiesSenior Management Stakeholder landscape

To engage the identified stakeholders successfully, it is important to consider what their role will be in supporting your project In small groups, decide which inclusion practice is best for each stakeholder group. As a whole group discuss any differences of opinions Gain school-wide agreement as to which Stakeholders will be engaged and how. Task 2: Engaging stakeholders

(Dictated or Imposed are not recommended) Inclusion PracticeExplanation Delegated Responsibility is given to a stakeholder group and their plan is accepted. ( We would be cautious of such an approach) Co - developed The development of ideas is shared equally. Both parties have equal opportunity to influence the final solution Consulted and debated Stakeholders are consulted before a plan is written up then this plan is opened up for debate in an open meeting Consulted Stakeholders are consulted Informed Stakeholders are kept informed about the process with no clear way of them becoming involved Stakeholder roles

Each stakeholder role requires different forms of communication from the school and different inputs and outputs from the stakeholder. The next slide shows the different expectations for each stakeholder group Using your stakeholder landscape, discuss in small groups what communication and expectations you will need to consider to ensure that your relationship with your stakeholders benefits the success of your project These discussions will form the basis of your stakeholder engagement plan Groups feed back on their engagement plans Task 3: Stakeholder communication

Inclusion PracticeRequirements of the engagement Delegated Provide a framework and guidance for the stakeholders who will have delegated responsibility Co - developed Produce a timetable of engagements, arrangements for student release from lessons if required, a recruitment programme and an initial presentation. Consulted and debated Produce the consultation document inviting comments, feedback the comments after the deadline, arrange an open meeting to debate Consulted Produce a consultation document, advertise it and encourage responses from all. Informed Plan an outcome that will be widely displayed in the school after the event Stakeholder roles

ObjectiveSuggested Approach To Review the ‘BEST’ learner outcome posters from workshop 2. Provide printed copies of the current posters OR provide full scale versions of the posters to review. Remind about the approach and give some specific examples. To agree which stakeholders should be involved. Identify the kinds of engagements verses the stakeholders who will engage with them. Small group analysis To design stakeholder engagementsAn iterative process of exposure to case studies, discussion and group debate to explore issues and current strengths To implement stakeholder engagements Workshop 3 review
