 Miscarriage- spontaneous loss of pregnancy before the 20 th week.  Stillbirth –Baby dies during pregnancy after the 20 th week.  Premature birth –baby born before the 37 th week of pregnancy.  example: twins example: twins  Low Birth Weight – baby weighing less than 5 lbs. 8 oz. at birth.

 Pregnancy  Sexually Transmitted Disease STDs  Loss of Reputation/self-respect  Too Young Too Young

Creates 4 problems: 1) Health Risks 2) Impact on Educational Choices 3) Financial problems 4) Emotional & Social Stress

 Results for mom: injury for spine and pelvic bones, altering her state of live  Results for baby: Can be born premature

 Risks  High blood pressure (pregnancy-induced hypertension- PIH)  Results  To Mom: Effects on kidney, heart, and blood circulation; may lead to convulsions or death; higher for teens under 15 than adults  To Baby: Greater risk of premature delivery, miscarriage, stillbirth

 Results  To Mom: Social, emotional, financial risks, employment and educational concerns  To Baby: Struggles to survive and face challenges of life

 Best thing for teen mom is to complete school  May drop out when pregnant or after the birth of the baby  Hard to find a job

 To avoid health risks, teen moms need good medical care  Child needs food, clothes, housing, health care (physical/basic needs)  Financial burdens can be stressful/ overwhelming
