Hierarchal Customer Needs Chart 1.Able to Travel 1.1 Light Weight 1.2 Battery Powered C.1 Compact 2. Low Cost 2.1 Disposable Head 2.2 Battery Powered 3. Appealing Appearance 3.1 Grip 4. Durable 4.1 Water Proof Revised Problem Statement In the beginning of this project, we were faced with the problem of a bulky, inefficient brush. We had to redesign this brush to make it ideal for travel. We will create a compact but yet efficient brush to meet this customer need. Our job now is to create the lightest, smallest, cheapest, and most portable brush.

External Search Activities A lot of research went into the design of our new product. During the designing process, we had to take into account customer needs, customer reviews, and patents for each individual aspect and part of our new product. Literature Review: In the Literature Review, Priya researched consumer reports and reviews about Oral-B Advanced Power 400. Patent Search: In his patent research, Richard found different patents that presented ideas for battery placement, overall body design, brush mechanics, and brush head protection for our toothbrush. Benchmarking: Maggie made comparisons with other toothbrush designs so we could make a more sound and efficient toothbrush design. Project Dissection: Lauren recorded the information from our toothbrush dissection so we could analyze it for our own design

Generated Concepts Brush Head Concept 1: This brush head has a larger design a long with moving and still bristles. Concept 2: This brush head has circular spinning along with still bristles. Concept 3: This brush head has a center that rotates while the top and bottom bristles stay still. Concept 4: This brush head has bristles that vibrate with rubber edges to provide a way to clean your tongue on the back of the brush head.

Generated Concepts Power Generation Concept 1: This toothbrush contains two stacked AA batteries. Concept 2: This toothbrush contains one AA battery so it does not take up as much space. Concept 3: This tooth brush has a rechargeable battery so it would come along with a charger that you plug in. Concept 4: This tooth brush contains two AAA batteries.

Generated Concepts Body/Grip Concept 1: This body/grip has grooves for your fingers to provide a better grip. Concept 2: This body/grip folds in half making the toothbrush as a whole more travel friendly. Concept 3: This body/grip is gel to provide a comfortable grip while brushing your teeth. Concept 4: This body/grip is shorter in size so it is easier to travel with. While using the toothbrush though this design allows you to detach the cap and attach it onto the bottom of the body so you have a longer body to hold onto while brushing your teeth.

Generated Concepts Energy Mechanism Concept 1: This tooth brush is moved by a gear inside the brush head. Concept 2: This toothbrush is moved by a pin in a spring. Concept 3: This toothbrush is moved by a rotating jagged pin. Concept 4: This toothbrush is moved by just a rotating pin.

Rough Sketch of Brush

Brush Design

About the Brush Slim, straight body makes easy for travel Single AA Battery (Con. 1) decreases the weight Simple gears (Con. 1) allows full rotation for upper brush head A gel grip gives the toothbrush a more comfortable feel and batter grip when in use (Con. 3) Full rotation of brush head with still bristles gives an effective cleaning (Con. 2) Longer Neck gives the customer more reach

Conclusion Design provides customer with a lighter, easy-to-pack, and efficient powered toothbrush This toothbrush is excellent for travel The straight and narrow body design allows for easy handle while still being able to fit in almost any travel bag
