America Gets a New Deal (Chapter 15, Section 1 & 2)

How did Roosevelt’s New Deal change the role of government? Expanded role of government in stabilizing the nation’s economy (deficit spending) Glass-Steagall Act reorganized banking system, and established FDIC Federal Securities Act allowed regulation of stock market (Securities Exchange Commission) Agricultural Adjustment Act provided subsidies to farmers (controlled farm prices) Works Progress Administration created 8 million jobs (mainly construction)

What New Deal programs provided relief for the American people? Civilian Conservation Corps provided jobs for men 18 to 25 National Industrial Recovery Act (state funding) put millions of people to work Home Owners Loan Corp. (FHA-Gov. loans) provided low interest home loans Farm Security Administration helped tenant farmers to buy own land Federal Emergency Relief Administration provided food and clothing to needy

What reforms improved labor conditions and provided economic security?
