Presentation transcript:

 Recent conference champions who went to the state playoffs.  They are led by coach Pratt who is an AP Human Geography teacher.  We chose women’s tennis because they need help promoting their team and attracting new fans to come to their games.

 The attendance at women’s tennis matches is very low and people have no desire to watch them.  They don’t promote their games to the students as well as other sports.  Our purpose of research is to figure out who goes to women’s tennis matches and why. Knowing this will help us determine how to help out the team.  We want to know the reason why people don’t go to AK women’s tennis matches and why they go to other teams’ games. This will help us determine how we can improve AK women’s tennis attendance.

 15 people participated in our stratified random sampling of the Ardrey Kell student body 1. Junior: 33% Senior:67% 2. Male: 73% Female:27% times a week: 13% 1-2 times a week: 47% 1 time every two weeks: 40% 1 time a month: 0% Never: 0% 4. Yes: 27% No: 73% 5. Given answers: More people, prizes, free food, promotion, If they were good, interest in sport 11. Yes: 0% No: 100% 12. Given answers: nobody goes, it is boring, no time, no publicity, IDK(Eric Ahn) 13. Given Answers: More people, prizes, free food, promotion, If they were good, interest in sport

Interviews with a teacher and a student: Van Veen Interview: Why did you become the Women’s tennis coach? Because I have coached tennis in the past and it is enjoyable Are the women’s tennis facilities adequate? Yes they are Does the women’s tennis team usually win their matches? Yes, they went 17-2 last year and went to the final four in state playoffs How many supporters do you have on average at the tennis matches? 10, mostly parents Why do you believe this many people come? Could there be more? There is no advertising for students to come How do you think you could get more people to attend the tennis matches? Give out free homework passes and extra credit to students who attend and promotion AK student interview: Jarrett Wright Do you attend Ardrey Kell sporting events? Yes How often? Depends on the season, most of the time it is 3-4 times a month Do you buy concessions there? Yes Do you ever attend women’s tennis matches? Why? No because no one ever goes to them and they are boring to watch because there is not much action How do you think women’s tennis matches could gain popularity? If they gave out prizes and had free food and got a large group of students to start going.

 trnwired receive-low-attendance/  CMS Athletic Zone ow/ ardrey-kell-women-s-tennis ow/ ardrey-kell-women-s-tennis  Ardrey Kell High School Yearbook  We chose these sources because they gave us information on the lower attendance of women sports and information on the Ardrey Kell women’s tennis teams.

 From the data we can conclude that most people do not attend the tennis matches because there is not a strong student social presence at the tennis matches and if there was there would be more students there. Also we can conclude that there must be some incentive for students to start going to the matches to get others to come also.  Some facts that stood out › 33% of the surveyed students said they attend tennis matches the least out of any of the sports. › 67% of the students said they would attend tennis matches more if there were prizes or if more people went › VanVeen said that only about 10 people go to the tennis matches and most of them are parents › The team was 17-2 and still not many students went › Not only our school, many female sports organizations have trouble getting attendance compared to male sports organizations

 Solution 1: Give out free $5 gift cards to those who win a raffle by buying a ticket.  Solution 2: Have the student council organize a support group to help cheer for the team on at the games and go on the announcements to get other students to join them.  Solution3: Have a punch card that if a student comes to a certain amount of matches they can get a free Ardrey Kell t- shirt or free food.
