INDUSTRIAL MELANISM

What is Industrial Melanism?

a proportional increase of dark, or melanin, pigments in individuals of a population, caused by changes in the environment resulting from industrial pollution. It is the darkness of the skin, feathers, fur—acquired by a population of animals living an industrial region.

Causes causes

anthropogenic alteration of the natural environment in terms of industrial pollution. As soot, smoke and other industrial pollutants from factories. many organisms rely on camouflage to avoid predation, this sudden change in their environment makes them highly vulnerable to predators.

Normal Form: Peppered Variant: Black (Melanic)

was caused by ingested pollutants, that dark individuals were favored by the overcast conditions of urbanized areas; or By northern latitudes; and that dark individuals were better camouflaged against the prevailing darker backgrounds.

Effects EFFECTS

INDUSTRIAL POLLUTION Many of the light-bodied lichens died from sulphur dioxide emission’s, and the trees became covered with soot. This led to an increase in bird predation for light-evolution indeed, their bodies now dramatically contrasted with the colour of the bark.. Sulfur dioxide emission The combined effects of sulfur dioxide, which killed foliose lichens, and soot fallout, which blackened the denuded surfaces, had led to darker and more uniform substrates.

The effects of industrial melanism

MECHANISM

Industrial Revolution in England, the color of tree barks around Manchester was quite light. Because of this, dark-colored moths resting on those trees could easily be noticed by the birds that fed on them, and therefore they had very little chance of survival.

Impacts impacts

During that time, the England was experiencing a dark smoke that covered the sorrounding in the countryside. Another Impacts of industrial melanism are: Society Health Agriculture

Mitigation MITIGATION

The Act introduced a number of measures to reduce industrial pollution, especially by introducing 'smoke control areas' in some towns and cities in which only smokeless fuels could be burnt. CLEAN AIR ACT 1956: CLEAN AIR ACT 1956: CLEAN AIR ACT 1956: CLEAN AIR ACT 1956:

Conclusion and recommendation

Melanism is a genetic in origin and not cause by the environment Melanism is a genetic in origin and not cause by the environment. But due to industrial urbanization it cause the melanic form to increase. It found that in unpolluted areas, more of his light- colored moths had survived. CONCLUSION: CONCLUSION: CONCLUSION: CONCLUSION: CONCLUSION:

RECOMMENDATION: We Recommend that all countries espicially to the most industrial countries will reduced their pollution so that the number of dark moths are dropping as the forest become cleaner

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! and god bless!!!!!!!!!
