P1 Unit 6 Electromagnetic Waves

Electromagnetic Spectrum

 Infrared Radiation – used to transmit remote control signals and inside optical fibres  Microwaves – used for mobile phones and satellite TV.  Radio waves- also used for mobile phones, radio and TV broadcasts Communications

 UV – blindness, skin cancer  Microwaves and radio waves – internal heating  Infra-red – Skin burns  Gamma and x rays – DNA mutations and Cancer Dangers

 All space, matter and time were ‘created’ in the Big Bang  Since then the universe has been expanding.  Proof of the expansion – Red shift and CMBR Expanding universe

 Hubble discovered…  The distant galaxies are receding  The further away they are the faster they are receding Expanding universe

 Cosmic microwave background radiation is the remnants of the electromagnetic radiation created just after the Big Bang. CMBR
