The Physics of Santa Claus Some of my thoughts on the existence of Santa…

There are 2 billion children in the world But Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, and Buddhist children don’t celebrate Christmas So that leaves 15% of the total (378,000,000 kids) to deliver to.

The average household has 3.5 kids So Santa has to visit just 91.8 million homes every Christmas Eve (assuming there is at least one good child per household)

Because of Time zones (and sunset and sundown) Santa actually has 31 hours to do his work For 91.8 million homes – this leaves him 822.6 homes per second

This leaves him 1/1000th of a second to Park Go down chimney Deliver presents Fill stockings Eat cookies and milk Go up chimney Get back on sleigh

Calculating the average distance of a home – Santa would have to travel 650 miles per second from house to house 3000 times the speed of sound Ever heard of a sonic boom?

For comparison, the fastest man-made craft – The Ulysses Space Probe – travels at 27.4 miles per second Normal Reindeer run at 15 mph

If every present was a medium sized lego box, Santa’s payload would be 321,300 tons Santa would need 214,200 reindeer to pull that much weight Add in the Reindeer, Santa, and Sleigh and it would be over 353,000 tons 5 times the size of a cruise ship

Think about the atmosphere friction that heats up an meteorite (and burns it up) Now – 353,000 tons moving at 650 mph would absorb 14.3 QUINTILLION joules of energy per second Vaporizing all the reindeer in 4.26 thousandths of a second

Santa, meanwhile, will be subjected to centrifugal. forces 17,500 Santa, meanwhile, will be subjected to centrifugal* forces 17,500.06 times greater than gravity So a 250 pound Santa would be crushed against his sleigh with 4,315,015 lbs of force

So it would seem - If Santa ever DID deliver presents on Christmas Eve in the way we think he does, he's dead by now.

HOWEVER – We all know Santa IS real, so… There is a scientific way he COULD do it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fg_VfvPHRZw

Solar Flares The reason Santa lives at the north pole is because it is the center of where all solar ions (the same ones that make the northern lights) go after a solar flare is deflected by the Earth’s magnetic field

Wormhole Einstein taught us to think of the universe as a flat sheet of space and time Black holes were a predicted mathematical calculation that was later to be discovered correct

Wormholes are another mathmatical concept that (although unlikely) could be correct They allow you to travel through time and space – allowing Santa to take his time to get to all the houses!

CONCLUSION SANTA IS REAL He just uses a wormhole to travel to all houses through space and time!!!

NEXT TIME Is Santa EVIL?!?!?!!?
