Indigenous People People who – Lived in a particular area for a long period of time – Existed before colonialism – Have a different culture than that of the nation Often do not have protected rights from the governments Many people trace their lineage to the ancient people—Aztec, Maya, & Inca

Quechua Found in Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, & Colombia Speak Quechua Farmers in lower Andes, herders in the higher Andes (llamas & alpacas) Communal ownership Famous for weaving Men wear more modern clothing (except ponchos), women more traditional including distinctive hats
