 SHS Review 2005  Why has this been commissioned?  Normal need to review a survey prior to letting another contract (for 2007 to 2010)  Developments in policy areas that SHS exists to support - need to establish, from time to time, that basic design and approach are still appropriate;  Considerable pressure to include more topics in the survey - make room to collect more useful data;  To ensure that the survey provides evidence to support delivery of ministerial priorities.

 SHS Review: Next steps Review contractor consults policy contacts and analysts (April-June 2005)  Review contractor reports – summer 2005  SE decides future “shape” of SHS – Aut/Wint 05  SHS contract for 2007 on – awarded Spring 06

 SHS Review: Next steps  Review will establish the balance between broad policy areas covered with effect from 2007  Next detailed questionnaire revision:  Spring / Summer 2006 – consultation  January 2007 – new questions introduced
