Research The Internet is a wealth of information and is one of the best ways to find information fast and efficiently. Electronic databases and University libraries offer an array of scholarly articles and journals Common Search Engines for Research: Bing.comYahoo.com Google.comLycos.com

Blogs Blogs can offer a variety of information about certain topics. Blogs can be subject specific, such as Biology Blogs, Math Blogs, English Blogs, etc. Students and teachers can create their own blogs easily with such sites as: blogger.com or wordpress.com blogger.com wordpress.com

Distance Education Many adult students use this form of education to suit their schedules University Blackboards, , and electronic libraries are essential components for distance education Some high schools have incorporated some type of distance education for students

Educational Videos Education videos are available on many websites and they can capture the student’s attention better than books or lectures. Videos can be a great supplement in addition to text or lectures. Tutorials and simulations are available in video format.

Podcasting Many teachers use podcasting as a way of presenting extra lecture material in a format that the student can listen to in their own time. Students also use podcasting to create their own podcast to share their learning experience with others.

Career Development Many students use the internet to either start planning their careers, or furthering their careers. Many websites exist to help a student decide on college courses that fit their expected careers. Many adult students use the internet to continue their education, in essence, furthering or strengthening their career.

Social Networking Many websites provide a way for people to interact with each other and form networks. Facebook is a widely used social network site that allows groups of people to follow one another on a more social level. LinkedIn is widely used in businesses for networking professionals.

Collaboration Many students and teachers need the abililty to share their work and thoughts with others in their community. Collaboration sites include GoToMeeting.com, SlideShare.com, Zoho.com. Google also has created a set of Google Apps for collaboration purposes.

Wiki Sites Wiki Sites allow you to create a Wiki site which are knowledge sharing sites often used and edited by multiples. Wiki Sites also allow you to create notes or informational material about a particular subject.

Productivity Tools Websites that offer a student or teacher a simple template or utility to use that makes them more efficient is called a productivity tool. Microsoft Office provides an array of free productivity tools. Diagrams, charts, lesson planners, daily planners and quiz templates are all examples of productivity tools.
