PRAYER

Prayer is one of the ways that God invites us into a creative partnership that includes us in the process of exploring the margins of our future. God may know the future but we do not. Prayer is a journey of discovery in which God helps us to get a handle on what he is thinking and doing.

1. FORMAL: prayer already composed. e.g. Hail Mary, Our Father 2. SPONTANEOUS: made in your own words; no set formula. 3. VOCAL VS SILENT: Spoken Aloud: Eucharist, Sacraments. Silent: Rosary - reflections, meditations. 4. PRIVATE: MATT 6:6 - “But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. Your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” 5. PUBLIC: We come together to openly praise and adore God, seek forgiveness, ask for help and offer thanks. e.g. liturgy

1. BLESSINGS: a prayer asking for divine favour and protection; something for which to be thankful 2. PETITION: means to ask for something, prayer of asking for help, and /or healing; requests for ourselves, our family, or our friends. 3. INTERCESSION: petition on behalf of others. 4. THANKSGIVING: expressing gratitude for God’s many gifts. 5. PRAISE and ADORATION: centered wholly upon God and His eternal characteristics–His majesty, glory, and power, His lavish love; glorifying God. 6. MEDITATION: we don't say anything, we meditate on God's love and mercy; think deeply and continuously, ie to see how God is revealing himself in every day life.
