Subculture – what is it? ► Subculture is a group of young people with a distinct style and identity. ► Different subcultures have their own beliefs, value systems, fashion, and favourite music. ► There are now 31 million kids in the 12-to- 19 age group, and demographers predict that there will be 35 million teens by 2010.

Why do teens choose a subculture?

Many kids say that they feel themselves alone and unable to connect with their parents, teachers and sometimes even classmates. They are looking for guidance, and when they don’t get what they need they join subcultures.
