What is Percent of Change? Percent of change = amount of change original amount It also = last – first first

Directions: State whether each change is a percent of increase or a percent of decrease. Then find the percent of change. Round to the nearest tenth, if necessary.

Examples From $9.25 to $ 6.50 Since the price is going down it is a percent of decrease. Percent of change = $ $9.25 $9.25 = $-2.75 $9.25 = = -29.7%

Examples cont. From 4 paintings to 13 paintings. The number of paintings is going up so this is a percent of increase. Percent of change = 13 – 4 4 = 9 4 = 2.25 = 225%

Independent Practice In 1965, when John entered in college, the tuition per year was $7,500. In 2000, when his daughter went to the same school, the tuition was $25,500. Find the percent of change. A $110 sweater is on sale for $88. What is the percent of change?

Answers $25,500 - $7,500 $7,500 = $18,000 $7,500 = 2.4 = 240%
