Direct Diversion Processing – Best Practices 3.Procurement: Do you utilize direct to manufacturer procurement? Or a distributor prime vendor procurement? ool-nutrition/doc/dd_reference_guide.doc

PULASKI COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUNDED ON TRADITION AND PRIDE, FOCUSED ON EXCELLENCE Procurement - Create & Establish an RFP for a Prime Vendor -Taste Testing -Food shows -Obtain samples and sample to students- pull together a sampling of students from various levels and conduct tasting. -Meet as a buying group to sample products from various manufacturers. -Meet & determine what products we want to work with. -Must be incredibly detailed specs for products. -Spreadsheets for each Diversion products & commercial (2 separate) -Work with buying group to specify case volume so manufacturers can prepare and vendor know’s what to plan for.

Procurement Before you begin the process have an idea of where you are going. Listen to your sales reps. Evaluate their products. Get samples. Taste Test with staff and students. Direct to Manufacturer bids allow schools to see what the processor has available in the State of WI, not just at the distributor level. Ask for nutritionals to use in product selection.

Direct Diversion Processing – Best Practices 6.Order End Products: What is your timeframe for placing orders? How often do you place orders? ool-nutrition/doc/dd_reference_guide.doc

PULASKI COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT FOUNDED ON TRADITION AND PRIDE, FOCUSED ON EXCELLENCE Placing Orders of Finished End Products -Must have detailed specs. -SEPDS sheets -Provide information with prime vendor after placing annual order. -Prime vendor should tell you of any minimum delivery specs, etc. -Provide an approximate usage of cases for each product with prime vendor at start of school year. -Order actual cases for 3-5 months at a time. - Utilize a spreadsheet to help monitor. -This is the communication between myself & prime vendor. -Use K12 & Processor link to manage.

Placing order of finished end products Let distributor know ASAP which products you have chosen. Give an estimated opening order and monthly usage. Place orders 2-3 weeks in advance for assured availability. Notify distributor at least 2 weeks in advance of an extremely large order to assure availability. Know your special order products. COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE, COMMUNICATE!
