The Vision of the CERL Portal A cross-collection search utility for materials in manuscript collections Unites and shares digital resources regarding manuscripts (descriptive records and facsimiles) Is hospitable to data of members and non- members of CERL Is accessible to everybody without charge or membership obligation

General Features The CERL Portal is constructed and hosted by The Electronic Publishing Center (EPC) at Uppsala University Library, Sweden Developed as Open Source software (transportable) CERL establishes contractual relations with contributing libraries based on a Memorandum of Agreement

Formats and Protocols Hospitable to any record formats (MARC, MASTER, or other) Supports the OAI protocol (”Local index”, harvested metadata) Supports the Z39.50 protocol (”Remote index”, distributed metadata, virtual database) Supports SRU protocol

Advanced Features Multilingual interface Multilingual help-screens Integration of the CERL Thesaurus (”Assisted Search” on personal names and place names)
