Raising Children Raising Children Three Things to Know

Raising Children A new parent’s most common question: “How do I…?” Thousands of books are in print concerning the raising of children, from new-born to adolescent Proper and effective raising of children not only affects the immediate home, but also the nation, the church, and ultimately the eternal destiny of the child

Know Your God Know that God has made us and told us how to live (Gen. 1:26-27; Judges 13:8-14 ) Know that God has made provision for our coming to know him (Deut. 6:4-9; Psa. 78:5-8; Prov. 22:6; Eph. 6:4) Know that God must be seen first in the lives of the parents (2 Tim. 1:5; Acts 21:5)

Know Yourself Know that God has given you the capability and primary responsibility to raise your children (Gen. 18:19) Know what God expects of you as a parent: the mother (Prov. 31:28; 1 Tim. 5:14; Tit. 2:3-5) and the father (Josh. 24:15) Know that God is giving you a choice how to raise your children (1 Sam. 1:11; 3:13)

Know Your Child Know that your child requires molding (Prov. 1:7,10; 7:10; 13:20,24; 22:15; 23:13; 29:15) Know that your child can be provoked and discouraged (Eph. 6:4; Col. 3:21) Know that your child, like you, needs faith in God more than anything else in life (Deut. 32:28; Judges 2:10; 2 Tim. 3:15)
