Edusafe Summer School G. Aielli (on behalf of O. Beltramello) 22 June 2015 Ideasquare, CERN Edusafe Summer School 22 – 26 June 2015

Summer School agenda Monday 22 June – WP 4: Safety system enhancement research – WP 5: Technology assessment and exploitation – Dinner at Café de l’Aviation at Tuesday 23 June – WP2: Virtual and Augmented reality technology development – WP3: Safety system modularity Wednesday 24 June – Technical training WRM Augmented Reality Thursday – Friday June – Communication training for ESRs and ERs Edusafe Summer School 22 – 26 June 2015

Goal of the meeting Start up the testing campaign organization by – Sharing the status of work in each WP – Discussing the critical points – Proposing solutions – Clarifying the responsibilities of each beneficiary to start the work towards the final testing campaign Address in the technical discussion the main interdependencies still open in between WPs so to allow each WP and task to program the work in the correct way Define the broadly the main changes to the layout with respect to the first TC Edusafe Summer School 22 – 26 June 2015

Deciding the TC date As discussed in the Supervisory board meeting, we need to keep in mind that we have limited time before the fellows start leaving 1 st December is safe from this point of view with 2 drawbacks: – It is very tight – It overlaps with a major Ideasquare activity (as last year) non at all ideal working condition 15 January could be suitable if the leaving fellows can be prolonged by their institutes. This is presently under investigation Edusafe Summer School 22 – 26 June 2015

Testing Campaign 2014 The aim of 2014 testing campaign was: – Test as much as possible the available functions and replace the missing ones with surrogates to allow a full integration – Test several potential solutions so to be able to select the final setup on the base of the results This of course had an high cost and overhead due to the use of several configuration and the patchwork forced by the missing parts We also felt the necessity of injecting some additional HW/SW engineering MP to withstand the big amount of work and the non trivial integration problems. Edusafe Summer School 22 – 26 June 2015

Testing Campaign 2015 The final testing campaign will have a completely different setup: we have to deliver the final system: – a single configuration will be the main subject of the test – We will put maximum emphasis on the streamlining of the SW/HW setup trying to simplify (when possible) and thus obtain a more reliable setup – Still we remember that this is a demonstrator prototype and not a product so we can allow solutions which are functional for the test even if unsuitable for a commercial product. The simplified configuration is more than compensated by the presence of brand new pieces of HW: WRM and see through device for which a supplementary effort is needed. Edusafe Summer School 22 – 26 June 2015

Testing Campaign 2015 focus Major changes: – The WRM box will replace the simulation running in the server. – The see through display will replace the video tablet Big changes: – Improved tracking and algorithms (visual and IMU). Seeking for speed and precision – More linear communication infrastructure – HW setup consolidation and simplification – System SW, consolidation clean-up and speed-up – Gamma camera output fully integrated Additional help – CERN injected an experienced SW engineer (Nektarios Benekos formerly from ATLAS) which will support part time the fellows. – A dedicated SW/HW engineer for setting up the new prototype is also envisaged (but not yet achieved) Edusafe Summer School 22 – 26 June 2015

Deliverables and milestones At the moment we are in line but the next coming are hard… as well as the final TC Recommendation to participate to the researcher’s night 2015 (another Marie Curie project) Edusafe Summer School 22 – 26 June 2015
