LTEL Monitoring Forms- Part I, Fall In order to monitor the progress of Long-Term Academic English learners (those in the program 5 or + years): Pre-populated LTEL monitoring forms will be forwarded ELECTRONICALLY to the AEL contact at each site. AEL contacts will forward these electronic forms to the appropriate classroom, Language Arts/ELD, or other teacher OR distribute hard copies. Teachers will complete the form, either electronically or as a hard copy, in conjunction with parent and student. This can be done during parent conferences or through individual teacher/student/parent meetings.

LTEL Monitoring Forms- Part I, Fall Please note, the following slides are based on the old monitoring forms. Updated monitoring forms aligned to the new reclassification criteria will be sent out when they are completed.

Completing LTEL Monitoring Forms Part 1, Fall Teachers will: Fill in required scores in the Most Recent Assessments section. Scores should be from from 1st Trimester or 1st Quarter, 2015. These can be accessed from Data Director or DIBELS.net or Illuminate, depending on assessment, or from teacher records.

Completing LTEL Monitoring Forms Part 1, Fall Teachers will: Based on current data from the monitoring form, set a target score for selected assessment/s. Review either CELDT scores (see above on the form) or recent ELLA domain scores. Determine a domain for focus and improvement.

Completing LTEL Monitoring Forms Part 1, Fall Teachers will: Determine appropriate interventions during the school day. These can be taken from the site Catch-up Plan. Additional interventions could be before or after school. Obtain student and parent input and signatures.

Completing LTEL Monitoring Forms Part 1, Fall ELAC/Compliance Upload Adams-Hawthorne Once all Monitoring forms are completed and signed by parent (when possible) AND PRINCIPAL, the principal will complete and sign the Monitoring Completion Sheets. These completion sheets will then be uploaded to your Upload site! Catch-up Plan will be uploaded as well.

LTEL Monitoring Forms- Part II, March Teachers will: Review student progress at the end of Trimester 2/Quarter 3. Determine modifications to the student plan, if needed. Sign with a March date. Individual Monitoring Plans will be filed in the AEL folder, behind the Monitoring tab, by the end of the school year.

R-FEP Monitoring 3 years only R-FEPs Meeting Criteria R-FEPs Not Meeting Criteria Teacher and principal will review the electronic or hard copy form and sign, to verify that R-FEP student is being successful. Teacher will follow the same process used for monitoring of Long-Term Academic English Learners.

ELAC Discussion

Heads Together - First Question At my site, we hold_______ ELAC meetings each year. This is/is not enough because ___________________________. One - three Four - six More than six I don’t know.

Second Question We hold our meetings _____________________ This works/does not work because _________. in the morning during the afternoon after 6:00 p.m. at different times, depending on what’s happening at the site

Third Question I believe our site has an effective ELAC committee. Yes, because ___________________. No, because ____________________. Yes, but we need __________________. I need more information about what is an effective committee.

Fourth Question One challenge our site faces with ELAC is that ____________________________.

Think and Report After talking with my colleagues, one idea we may try at our site to improve our ELAC is to ________.

Making your ELAC an Advisory Committee One strategy we use at my site to generate parent advice and voice is to ______________________________.

Some hints… Partner Discuss Gallery Walks Group work Expert Groups Use the same type of strategies you would use in the classroom to generate student interaction . You need to get ALL parents talking. Partner Discuss Gallery Walks Group work Expert Groups Require a final product

Some hints… Have a system for recording parent input and voice. Chart paper Graphic organizers for pairs or groups Set expectations for an end product that reflects parent input and voice. Each group will come up with two suggestions. Each pair will complete one hand-out

Then… Put it in the minutes!!! Examples: After presenting the Importance of Attendance powerpoint, Mrs. Smith had parents work in groups to determine 3 ways we could improve attendance at our school. Parents noted their ideas on chart paper and each group shared out. The parents generated the following ideas: After completing the Needs Assessment in a Gallery Walk, parents worked in groups to generate ideas to improve weakest areas determined by the Needs Assessment. Each group reported out. The following suggestions were made: The principal presented on the Importance of Attendance. Parents were then asked for suggestions on how to improve attendance. No suggestions were given at this time.

Making your ELAC an Advisory Committee In order to generate more ELAC parent advice and voice, I plan to ______________________________. verb assign expect require announce include reward

Increasing attendance at your ELAC meetings… One strategy we use at my site to increase parental attendance at ELAC meetings is to ______________________________. Casual Academic add include have provide, offer make encourage

Current ELAC Topic Feedback on the school plan for English Learners Resources available on the AEL/SS Haiku page Sample Powerpoint to present the plan Other ideas regarding the school plan But, the school plan is not required at my site! Does that mean that we don’t take the plan to the ELAC? NO! Instructional decisions are still being made Get the feedback of the ELAC on those decisions!
