2 Agenda Why the change? New SLO Template Walkthrough
Expectations and Recommendations *parking lot note 1 minute Parking lot note -we will have a virtual parking lot wherein any questions, clarifications, or concerns you have can be written on your card and turned in a the end -even if a question you write gets answered, we’d like you to turn in your card to help us understand commonalities across the five rooms we are facilitating)

3 Why the change? How did it come to be?
5 minutes Speaking points (from principal or AP on the team) Below are things we want to make sure are included, but please speak from your heart and share something from your experience. Change came based on feedback from school sites prior to the SLO Development Team Feedback and input came from a Development team of administrators, teachers, and coaches in the district this winter 2018 SLO Development Team wanted to make the process -more clearly aligned to PDSA -more efficient for school sites -retain the integrity of the teacher feedback process -aligned to the Student Learning Goals state-wide

4 Purpose The purpose of the Student Learning Objective (SLO) is to shine light on a teacher’s impact on student learning. In the SLO process, teachers collaboratively plan, analyze results, and act on those results (PDSA Cycle). (2 minutes) Give participants a change to read the slide on their own. Handout the new template

5 With a shoulder partner, look through the SLO Template looking for evidence of the purpose:
The purpose of the Student Learning Objective (SLO) is to shine light on a teacher’s impact on student learning. In the SLO process, teachers collaboratively plan, analyze results, and act on those results (PDSA Cycle). (5-8 minutes) Give participants 5-8 minutes to look through the SLO Template looking for evidence of the purpose statement with a shoulder partner. Walk around and listen to conversations (as you may want to mention things you heard on the next slide)

6 Let’s Discuss… What evidence of the purpose did you find?
What other things did you notice/talk about? What evidence of the purpose did you find? The purpose of the Student Learning Objective (SLO) is to shine light on a teacher’s impact on student learning. In the SLO process, teachers collaboratively plan, analyze results, and act on those results (PDSA Cycle). (5-8 minutes) Give participants a chance to share whole group on either question. If the room is quiet, plug a few things you heard while roaming around. Points to bring up if no one says them: -Feedback criteria (no scores, just qualitative feedback that aligns to the teacher’s evidence in their SLO and their professional learning needs) -Fewer boxes, fewer clicks (for example, teachers had 45 “clicks” and 15 text boxes, now they have 7 “clicks” and 5 text boxes) -Part 1 and Part 2 hard stop (the PGS system will not let teachers go on to part 2 without administrator approval of part 1) If you get questions about: Instructional strategies- this wasn't getting to the level of information we originally intended. Instructional Strategies are still a critical part of observation and reflection conversations with teachers. Teachers are still using them, administrators still giving feedback, just not in the SLO development phase. Other parts of the SLO- The Student Data Sheet and Results Analysis Phase still exist. If questions begin to veer into the realm of non-negotiables, expectations, training, or recommendations please thank the person for raising the question and let them know we will be addressing it next section Op

7 Requirements and Recommendations
Read through the Information for Certified Teachers Sheet. Annotate as you like, we will come together as a group in 5 minutes to debrief the content. (At the beginning of this slide you should be about at the halfway point for time) Handout the Information for Certified Teachers Sheet Suggestion- tell them the quiet signal you will use to bring the group back together before you let them read as they will begin talking to one another when they are done 5 minutes to read the document 15 minutes to go through the document and answer questions Facilitator- choose the order for debriefing: (time saver)….Go through annotated copy of important points first then ask group for questions or (if you have time)…Ask group for questions/comments and then go through the annotated copy of important points to note anything they missed SEE FACILITATOR copy of Information for Certified Teachers Sheet and make sure to point out the highlighted points. Highlighted points in yellow are self-explanatory. Point #7 in the “requirements” section is green because it has the following talking point noted here and on the facilitator copy: “There is a hard stop on MyPGS such that teachers’ standards and assessments for Part 1 must be approved in the system by an administrator before the teacher can access part 2. This means you cannot give verbal approval without providing feedback and approving part 1 in MyPGS”
