Presentation transcript:

Educational challenges of 2020 In 2020 the elementary classroom sizes increase by 10 students. Educators are tasked with teaching more math and science in order to prepare students for success in the new global workplace. Due to the larger classes, education is extended outside the classroom.

Our Approach Schools will be equipped with more smart classrooms to better serve the needs of the student population. Teachers become critical components to real-time monitoring of student’s progress. By giving teacher’s access to real time data about the student’s performance, it allows for immediate identification of potential leaning challenges in the classroom. Teachers get their student’s more engaged in their studies by making lesson plans more interactive. Touch screens will help to enrich the student’s access to a broader spectrum of Knowledge.

User Personas The Student: Michael Kearning is a 6 th grade student attending grade school in rural Massachusetts. Michael enjoys technology and uses it daily. The Teacher: Chelsea Harket is 34-years-old and has been teaching 4 th grade in Ohio for the past seven years. She teaches two groups of alternating students.

Pendulum e20 Like the pendulum of a grandfather clock this technology and device seamlessly connects student and teacher. In the same fashion of the movement of a pendulum, information between educator and pupil is continuously exchanged in the background. This streaming of data allows the teacher a unique opportunity to monitor a student’s performance in real- time. In addition to helping the teachers aid their students, this technology keeps the student actively engaged and motivated about learning.

User Personas Michael enters his classroom and sits down at his station, a glass desk with a touch screen interface. It automatically tallies his attendance when he logs on and synchs up with the teacher’s display. Today, his class is starting with an opening lesson in Earth Science. As Mr. Karls talks, Michael follows along with diagrams on his screen. Near the end of the lesson Mr. Karls announces a quick quiz, and question forms pop up on all of the children's screens. Michael's answers are immediately sent to the teacher’s station after they are submitted. Mr. Karls can see that Michael completed the quiz at an average speed, changed two of his answers after his initial input, and got only one out of ten questions wrong. Michael is sent a corrected version of the quiz from the teacher's station with a note from Mr. Karls that he is doing well. This Tuesday, she is teaching her second group of children about dinosaurs. From her station at the front of the class, she loads up the curriculum and broadcasts the lesson to each of the students' desks. As the children watch a 3D model of a stegosaurus stomp and turn on their displays, she asks them to name the period of time the dinosaur is from. The students are given a list of period names and drag their answers to a submission field. At her desk, Ms. Harket is notified when each child submits their answer. She can organize this information through various criteria, and drill down to view individual responses from the students. The station automatically saves the records of the class's answers and presents the teacher with detailed information about how the children are progressing. From this data Ms. Harket notices that three students are slightly behind, and sets up some extracurricular lessons for them that cater to their specific learning styles.

Tracking learning progress Learning management systems Example: In many popular e-learning systems, when a student receives a high score on an online assessment, it makes us wonder: is it an accurate indicator of the student's understanding?
