Prior to the 2008 crisis, Iceland had achieved high growth, low unemployment, and a extremely even distribution of income. The economy depends heavily on the fishing industry, which provides 40% of export earnings and employs 5% of the work force. Iceland's economy has been expanding into manufacturing and service industries in the last decade, with new developments in, biotechnology, and tourism.

In recent years, Vietnam has been rising as a leading agricultural exporter and an attractive foreign investment destination. Vietnam's key products are: rice, cashew nuts, black pepper, coffee, tea, fishery products and rubber. It is one of the largest oil producers in the world. High-tech industries and manufacturing information form a fast growing part of the economy.
