Introduction †The United Nations General Assembly has designated 1st October as the International Day of Older Persons & this year we celebrate the 25th anniversary. †UN statistics show that the number of older persons will be twice that of children in developed countries by the year 2050.

Easy Tip: Add 35 to your current age? Fun Question: How old will you be in the year 2050 if you are still alive (by God’s grace)?

How do we see & deal with the elderly among us?

How does God see the elderly?

1. The Righteous Generation Psalm 92:12 "The righteous will flourish like a palm tree; they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; †The righteous are those seen as righteous by God. †We are made righteous through what Jesus has done for us (2 Corinthians 5:21) & thus we need to thus live fruitful & productive lives for the Lord until the end.

Psalm 92:12 "The righteous will flourish like a palm tree; they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; †The righteous are exemplified by using the metaphor of these two trees: Palm TreeCedars of Lebanon

Palm Tree: which grows even in desert places produces not only dates, but also other produce. Its fruit is said to get sweeter as the tree grows older. Cedars of Lebanon: grows on hills and has an aromatic & is a strong durable tree. This tree was used in the building of the King David’s palace & the temple in Jerusalem.

2. Planted in God's Presence Psalm 92:13 planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. †The ability of a plant to grow strong & be fruitfulness is highly dependent on it being “planted” in the right environment.

†We must rather be “planted in God’s presence.” Psalm 1:3 3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; & in whatever he does, he prospers. John 15:4 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so either can you unless you abide in Me.

Psalm 92:13 planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God.

Conclusion: 1. The Righteous Generation 2. Planted in God's Presence
