John 15:1-7 The Vine and the Branches

15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes [a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.a 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples

Discuss as a form the idea of people being stronger together. Why is it important? “One branch cannot bear fruit, it needs the other branches and the tree” What does this mean? Together all the branches can hold the fruit, together we are stronger.

Together, the Student Council and you, we can build a stronger school environment. This year we will focus on five different areas of school, these are: Learning Experience Community and Fundraising Student Health and Wellbeing Catering Catholicity With your help, we can make our school a better place.

What kind of tree are you?

Which is the strongest? Why is that the best tree?

Your Task (10-15mins) Working in groups of two or on your own pledge on a leaf what can you do to make our school environment a better place. For example, you will ensure you never drop litter, you will be kind and polite to all staff and students. Display the branch with the leaves on your form board as this is a reminder of how we are all working together to create a stronger community.

With your help, we can all be stronger and make the school a better place to be. Let us Pray Hail Mary, full of grace, The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us sinners, Now and at the hour of our death. Amen
