Finding Percent

Vocabulary You can solve percent problems by writing and solving a proportion Use the words as clues to fill in this model:

What percent of 75 is 60?

Example 1 The Jeans Factory store is having a sale. How much money will you save at this store if you buy a pair of jeans on sale that originally cost $60.00?

You can find out how much you will save by finding 30% of $60.00. Write a proportion. Let n = the amount of savings You will save $18.00

Example 2 Write a proportion to find 40% of 75. Let n = 40% of 75. Use cross products to solve for n. 30 is 40% of 75.

Guided Practice 1. What is 40% of 15? _______ = _______ 2. What is 5% of 20? 3. What is 10% of 35? _______ = ________

Classwork Find the percent of each number. 40% of 120 25% of 245 How much would you save on a $45 pair of jeans on sale for 40% off?
