5 ENGLISH SENTACES Fried plantains are used across Central America but are used a lot in Dominican Republic and in Puerto Rico, Honduras, Costa Rico, and Panama they are used in a dish called patacones or tostones. Papusas are from El Salvador. They are made from masa dough (for outside bread) and are filled inside with stuff like ground beef, pork, cheese, and beans). They are very thin and the dough is also very soft. Tamales were first started in Mexico but fast, spread and became popular in all of Central and South America. Tamales are made with masa dough and are usually steamed in a leaf wrapper. They can e filled with meat, cheese, vegetables, etc. Tamales were made very early as the Aztecs and Mayans were eating them as early as 8,000 BCE.
