Congo Kids Initiative (Bunia, DR Congo) Supports children impacted by war in Eastern Congo. Ensures that these children enter adulthood with skills. Works with local partners.

Forming Congo Kids Initiative (CKI) In 2003 international journalists & Congolese colleagues met nuns running St. Kizito Orphanage & formed a support network. They wanted to aid children impacted by continuous conflict. Since that time, this team has helped hundreds of children survive ongoing Instability.

The Orphanage Serves up to 100 children ranging from newborns to young adults. Provides ongoing care to children unable to return to their home communities due to conflict and the resulting collapse of social resources. Makes a continuous effort to locate family members who can provide a permanent home for children.

The Clinic Provides pediatric resources for resident children. Increases access to HIV+ testing and early treatment along with prevention skills. Offers basic medical care for the local community and public health resources.

The School St. Kizito School provides early childhood and elementary schoold education for the orphanage and community children. Children are provided with a supportive learning environment. Students are supported in learning and education past the St. Kizito classroom so that they can enter adulthood with productive skillsets.

Current Initiatives With CKI's support, a new nursery was built to house 22 babies, with rooms for additional staff and an indoor toilet. Last year, the Congo Kids Initiative family was able to provide new beds for all the children living at the orphanage. This year CKI launched an education fund to support college and vocational training for young adult residents. Two young women have begun medical training and will be followed by many more in years to come.

Off to College: Brigitte and Neema This year CKI launched an education fund to support college and vocational training for young adult residents. Two young women have begun medical training and will be followed by many more in years to come.

In Progress! In 2016, with your help, for the first time, St. Kizito students will have access to computers! CKI is working to obtain 20 tablets and laptops along with a well stocked server from our University of North Carolina partners that will allow children to learn how to navigate the digital and global world. Next up - the internet!

Join the CKI Team Help us continue our support for the orphanage, school, and clinic. Hold events to raise resources and funds. Get others involved in CKI!
