Abstract: The idea for this project began with Suzanne Lanks and Demetri Melekos wanting to design a bike rack that will promote the usage of bicycles in and around the New Orleans area. Criteria: Minimal footprint on sidewalk Ease of use Design simple, low maintenance locking mechanism

Methodology : Bikes will be on an inclined angle U-channel steel to guide bikes in place Design combination lock that resets code each time lock is disengaged Locking mechanism swings down from top pressing the bike down to hold it in place Holds up to 6 bikes

Drawbacks of Current Designs : Most racks require owner to provide lock Citi bike requires you to rent their bikes and charge you for time used Minimal security Basic racks can be an eye sore

Deliverables: Design rack in Comsol or CAD Use Comsol for stress analysis Design Combination lock with automatic reset Design theft proof locking mechanism Use 3-D printer for small scale prototype Aesthetically Pleasing

Timeline October 10: Met with Ms. Lanks and Mr. Melekos to get Criteria October 15: Visited bike shop to get measurement of bikes October 25: Initial Presentation November 8: Finalize design and begin drawing in Comsol November 22: Use 3-D printer to build prototype November 29: Continue Assembly of small scale prototype December 6: Final Presentation
