Giant Squid By Milo Kashey Howdy! My name is Milo Kashey. I am going to take you on an undersea adventure. We are going 11,000 feet down to the midnight zone. I will teach you about an ocean monster, the giant squid! Here we go!

Habitat Oceans Midnight zones All oceans except Arctic and North 11,000 ft down Below freezing No light Giant squid live 11,000 feet down in the midnight zones of oceans. They don’t live in Arctic or North pole.

Adaptations to Survive the Habitat Glowing tentacles Change color Big eyes Large gills Thick skin They have glowing tentacles to see. It can change color for camouflage. Their eyes are the biggest in the world so they can see in the dark depths. They have large gills to breathe. Their thick skin keeps them warm.

Diet The giant squid is a carnivore. Three things they find yummy snacks are fish , other squid, and small whales. Now let’s see how they get food.

Adaptations for Food Have beach-ball size eyes Whip-like tentacles Can change color Glowing tentacles Spray brown ink Have suckers First of all they have beach ball-sized eyes for seeing in the dark depths. Did you know they can change color? Their glowing tentacles lure prey. When they spray brown ink prey can’t see. They also have suction cups to grip their tasty treats.

Predators Sperm whales eat them. Then they eat small whales who eat krill.

Physical Features They have fins, a main mantle, a siphon for propelling, a beak,2 eyes, a head, 8 arms, and 2 feeding tentacles.
