Online Ear Training Utilities Musictheory.net and good- ear.com Craig Duke MUS2360
Musictheory.net Contains instructive lessons, trainers, and several helpful utilities. An especially wide variety of trainers, ranging from identifying notes on a picture of guitar frets to chord ear trainers. Utilities include a staff paper document and a twelve-tone matrix generator.
Good-ear.com Only contains ear-training exercises, but a wider variety. Includes jazz chords and a perfect pitch trainer. The interface is slightly more cumbersome and less advanced.
Benefits Great for drilling chord and interval recognition. Beginning musicians can learn the important, basic aspects of musical notation and music theory. Very convenient and easy to use.
Disadvantages Neither site offers actual dictation exercises. The chords are played without harmonic context. A web site is no substitute for an actual music teacher. Musictheory.net prints its name at the bottom of the staff paper; this looks unprofessional.
