Presentation transcript:

Do you know the difference between Light Energy and Solar Energy? Light Energy vs. Solar Energy Is manmade Pollutes Is a natural resource Does not pollute

Things I need to know about light: 1. All light travels in rays (thin beams of energy.) 2. Light rays can travel through empty spaces (air) and through some solids (glass, cups, windows).

Does light travel through gases in the air? Yes, very easily. Does light travel through liquids? Some, depends how dark the are. Water -- Sprite -- Milk -- Coke -- yes No A tiny bit!

Glass -- Does light travel through solids? Depends on how clear it is. Plastics -- Wood -- Steel -- yes some no

What else do I need to know about light? 3. Light rays travel in a straight line unless something blocks them or makes them change direction. wall

Two words I NEED to know: 1.Reflection – When light bounces off an object. Ex: mirror, shiny metals, tinted windows

2. Refraction – When light travels through an object, causing light rays to bend. Ex: hands lens, eye glasses, cameras, glass, telescopes, microscope *If you can see through it, it’s refracting!!
