Queen Elizabeth I and Her Family

King Henry VIII King Henry was Elizabeth, Mary, and Edward’s father. He had six wives: Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Katherine Parr. Anne Boleyn and Katherine Howard were executed for witchcraft and adultery. Created the Church of England, a Protestant sect.

Mary I Mary was the daughter of Catherine of Aragon, who was divorced for failing to produce a son. Mary is known as “Bloody Mary” because during her rule of five years she killed many non-Catholics. She even imprisoned Elizabeth for being Protestant. Husband was Phillip II of Spain; no children were born to them.

Elizabeth I Mother was Anne Boleyn, who was beheaded for witchcraft. After Edward was born, Elizabeth was named illegitimate by Henry, and was the fifth and last ruler of the Tudors. Her heir was her cousin’s son, James I, of England and Scotland. Never married for the sake of keeping the crown.

Edward VI Mother was Jane Seymour, who died of childbirth fever after Edward’s birth. Took the throne at Henry’s death Died at 16 from tuberculosis

Queen Mary Stuart of Scotland Queen Mary was Elizabeth’s cousin. She was the daughter of James V of Scotland and Henry’s older sister. She was named queen at six days old. She is often confused for Mary Tudor, as they were both Catholic monarchs. Elizabeth had Mary Stuart executed on February 8th, 1587, for treason against Elizabeth

King James I of England and Scotland He was the son of Mary Stuart and her second husband Henry Darnley. His original name was James VI; later it was changed because he was the first Stuart king of England. James reigned for 22 years, and he who wrote what is now known as King James’s Bible.
