11 The English Reformation Henry VIII…a Tudor –He was stubborn, impatient and cruel man. –Wanted to keep family on the throne. –Problem: He needed a son but got Mary, whose raised catholic. Henry asked the Pope to annul his marriage to Catherine. The Pope refused. Why? Henry had the archbishop of Canterbury-Thomas Cranmer- (highest bishop in England) annul the marriage anyway.
