Mona Lisa Smiles 2nd graders enroll in the “Mrs. Harlow’s School of Arts”

National Art Standards Standard #4 Understanding the visual arts in relation to history and cultures. 4.1, 4.2 The lesson is basic on the history of Leonardo da Vinci and how art has changed from then to now. Leonardo was also an engineer, artist, and scientist. Standard #5 Reflecting upon and assessing the characteristics and merits of their work and the work of others. 5.3 We try and figure out why this painting is so popular. The Louve chose not to clean up Mona Lisa like the Vaticatan did the Sistine Chappell. A vote is taken to see if we should clean up the Mona Lisa. Standard # 6 Making connections between the visual arts and other disciplines. 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 Students realize that art has a history, and continues to change. Leonardo was a perfect example of all the disciplines being interrelated.
