Where is Texas?

The Texas motto is … Friendship!”

Texas State Song Texas, O Texas! Your freeborn single star, Sends out its radiance to nations near and far, Emblem of Freedom! it set our hearts aglow, With thoughts of San Jacinto and glorious Alamo.

A Glance Back in Time… Between 1519 and 1865, Texas was claimed by six countries including Spain, France, Mexico, the Confederate State of America, the United States of America, and, itself. It was its own country for a time, called the Republic of Texas. This history led to the naming of the popular modern-day amusement park, Six Flags Over Texas.

The Six National Flags of Texas Texas Under Mexico. 1821-1836 Texas Under Spain. 1519-1685; 1690-1821 Texas Under France. 1685-1690 Texas in the US. 1845-1861; 1865-Present Texas as a Republic. 1836-1845 Texas as a Republic. 1836-1845

Did you know? When Texas was part of Mexico it was part of the state Coahuila y Tejas. The flag of this state had two stars on it, so when Texas gained it's independence in 1836 they retained the same flag design, minus one star. This represents Texas' split from Mexico and it also gave Texas the nickname "The Lone Star State." Texas got this nickname in April 21, 1836. Texas state was the lone star republic when it was the Republic of Texas and is now the Lone Star State.

"The Father of Texas" Stephen Fuller Austin came to Texas to seek a life and fortune. Instead, he exhausted both in the service of Texas. To him alone belongs the well deserved title, "The Father of Texas."
