YOUR SITUATION The CPM Continuum Few/no Target Group Christians Many willing Target Group Christians Many Multiplying Target Group Churches Progress from lostness toward sustained church planting movements YOUR ATIVITIES Evaluate your situation and choose activities that move you across the continuum Generate Ev & CP by outsiders Generate Ev & CP by training willing insiders Raise up, train & multiply fruitful leaders Generate new streams in unreached sectors Fervent Prayer Always Spend the appropriate percentage of ministry time on what is needed to move across the continuum SC & team Cast vision and train far & near culture partners Much evangelism that leads to church planting, especially M2E (verbal) Including development of appropriate EV materials/methods Find Persons of Peace (POPs) Move new converts to category below Start as many streams as possible Cast vision to target group believers become willing. T4T-type training until multiple generations exist. Fill your 2 weeks with many groups. Help partners to do the same Mid-level trainings. Top-level leader mentoring. Of fruitful people (proven worth) Look for ways the CPM is naturally crossing over Via same, near or far culture partners Looking for people of peace Until the entire target group is saturated Develop a network of frequent, fervent pray-ers Including your and your team Expand it to your national colleagues

The CPM Continuum Few/no Target Group Christians Many willing Target Group Christians Many Multiplying Target Group Churches YOUR ATIVITIES Generate Ev & CP by outsiders Generate Ev & CP by training willing insiders Raise up, train & multiply fruitful leaders Generate new streams in unreached sectors Fervent Prayer Always Because God is already at work SCs can move across the continuum quickly! Most SCs move 1-2 steps at a time across the continuum... Celebrate each step forward!

Application Assess where your ministry is, or each stream is, on the top line (“your situation”). Put an “X” there. (Sometimes various CPM streams are at different points on the continuum.) Draw a line vertically down the page. The yellow portions along the line should show the approximate percentages of your ministry time that should be devoted to various high value activities that most help you move down the continuum toward CPM. – Note: fervent prayer by outsiders and national believers is critical at each stage. This chart does not address other activities like language study that are important at various stages of acculturation.

Key Factors Celebrate each step forward that you move across the continuum. While you may not be at full-blown CPM yet, you can celebrate progress along the continuum toward it. – Sometimes progress is 2 steps forward, 1 step back! You can move through the continuum quickly. It does not have to take a long time once God puts the pieces in place and you cooperate with him. He has been at work in your target group for hundreds of years! – One important step along the continuum is moving from 1st to 2nd generation churches & eventually to 4th generation. 4th generation has proved to be a good barometer of sustained CPMs. Your goal is to push through the stages as quickly as possible to keep momentum going. – For example, a high priority is to take new believers won through outside evangelism and move them in to training groups that get to multiplication.

Spending your time on the wrong activities at each stage usually prevents you from moving to the next. – E.g. doing leadership training, but you are training non- fruitful and non-obedient leaders – E.g. initiating lots of evangelism from the outside (spending most of your time coordinating this) when you already have many willing national believers in your target group If you fail to add in the next ingredient at the appropriate stage (or fail to increase its percentage of time commitment), the momentum may slow or halt. SCs that start with training multiple groups (activity #2) usually get to sustained CPMs faster. – A high value is to train as many groups of willing target group believers as possible. – Therefore a high value activity is to help persuade and mentor target group believers to be willing to be trained in multiplying methods. Sometimes this takes multiple visits and development of a relationship in which they show signs of teachability.

There are two great accelerators to this: – The Holy Spirit! Nothing will happen without Him bringing the increase. We most fully cooperate with Him by... Using reproducible methods that He will empower local believers to use. Crying out to him in prayer for the lost and for a CPM to develop. – A National SC Partner: In virtually every large CPM, at least one national believer (from the target group or near culture) has arisen who shares the vision with the outside SC. This person(s) takes ownership of the movement and helps to propel it forward.

What do you need to give your time to at this stage?
