Op Art Hand When something plays tricks on your eyes it is called an Optical Illusion… Op Art is artwork that plays tricks on our eyes.

Op Art Hand Start by tracing your hand lightly with a pencil. *Do this step as lightly as possible because the original outline of your hand should not show when finished.

Op Art Hand Using a black Sharpie, start adding your lines. Start at the bottom of the page where your arm is, and draw a curved line on the arm, and the straight lines for the background. *Use a pencil for the first 4 or 5 lines until you get the hang of it.

Op Art Hand Make sure your curved lines line up with black marker. Do not trace your outline with the black marker. Place your lines close together. If there is too much space between your lines, it will not look like the hand is popping off the page.

Op Art Hand Continue adding lines and moving up the paper towards the top of the page.

Op Art Hand Once you get past the finger tips, try to straighten out your lines as much as possible so that it no longer matches the curve of the fingers.

Op Art Hand Choose 3 colors. You may want to use a monochromatic color scheme, or whatever colors you think will go well together. *To make the hand ‘pop’ more, shade your color from darker (at the base of the hand), and lighten up as you get to the top part of your hand and fingers. Darken your color as you go back down the hand again.
