Society & Culture  All relationships involve hierarchies the roles of everyone in society is clear and widely observe.  Responsibility lies on the boss who is looked at for the maintaining the business, that is a part of India hierarchy structure.  The structure in India culture is based where you are on the social scale. It depends on which state you are from, religion, career, and family that you are a part of.  Indians do not like to use the word “No” instead they try to find other means to accommodate you.  They often give non-verbal clues to say that they are not happy with a request or question as oppose to a negative answer.  Apologize immediately if your feet or shoes touch another person.

 Religion, education and social class all influence greetings in India.  When meeting a group of individuals greet the oldest person first, and when leaving a group bid a farewell to each person.  Men shake hands with each other as do women but do not shake hands with a women unless she offers.  Gifts are not opened when received and yellow or white flowers are associated with funerals or death.  Lamb, chicken, and fish are the most commonly served main courses for non-vegetarian meals as they avoid the meat restrictions of the religious groups.  When dining wait to be told where to sit, most of the food is eaten with ones hands.

 Indians prefer to do business with someone they know and trust. A third party is recommended to introduce you to someone that you would be doing business with.  It is idea to plan meeting at least one month in advance and keep a loose schedule because meeting are often moved back or up.  Indians are non-confrontational which sometimes make a lengthy decision making process.  Men should dress in dark attire and women in dresses for meetings both conservative.  One should address a person by their title or last name unless invited to use first name.  Use the right hand when shaking hand and exchanging business cards they should not be translated.  It is considered rude to plunge into business discussions immediately. Ask about your counterpart’s family, interests, hobbies, etc. before beginning business discussions.  You may be offered a beverage, do not refuse it may be refilled if you empty your container.
