 There are three main types of business:  Traditional  Online  Transportation

 Most common use of IT in businesses is to monitor employees.  Major companies monitor employee and internet use.  Companies can easily filter internet connections from distractions salary.com data and findings

 Many reasons why a company may consider filtering websites.  Distractions  Legal issues: malware, inappropriate or illegal material  Sexual harassment claims

 A teleworker is an employee that works away from the office, either working from home or while traveling.  Often use collaborative software to increase productivity and maintain communication.  Collaborative software includes calendars, list, cloud based application, chat and instant messaging, ect.

 Used for simple calculations, budgeting, and accounting.  Relative cell referencing changes relative to the formula’s position. This is when the formula is copied and pasted everywhere and the cell references are updated by default.  Absolute cell referencing is used when a cell needs to stay in the same place no matter where it is copied.  Graphics are common with spreadsheets  Pivot tables (provide summary of data in spreadsheets)

 EFT- electronic funds transfer. Money is removed from computer systems.  ATM- automated teller machines  Electronic fraud is caused by either stolen cards online or in physical shops.  Chip and pin is a way to try and reduce theft.

 This refers to business transactions made online via the internet.  It is used to supplement sales and business.  Sales grow 11% annually since 2009  Secured payment methods. Buyer sends debit or credit card number and the transaction is immediate.  Business to customer  Business to business  Customer to customer

 Cookies are small text files stored in a special folder on your hard disk by some of the websites you visit.  They use cookies to store small amounts of data.  When you go on a site, it checks to see if you have a cookie. If not, the site creates a new cookie.

 Techniques use information technology to promote a business. It attracts more customers online & in stores.  is a cheap way for advertisement  Social media helps with widespread

 Travel sites have hotel, train, bus and airline information online for customers.  Body scanners are used in airports to detect hidden weapons and threats. Privacy concerns go along with that.  Package tracking is useful when one orders online.

 AKA intelligent cars, use IT to improve driver safety and comfort.  Often times, sensors are used to provide information about the environment. (back up camera, automatic stop, wheel automatic spin)  Weather conditions  Automatic emergency call  Comfort and convenience
