Mechanics of Materials Combined Loadings

Combined Loadings Stress analysis where: Axial load Torsion Bending Shear occur simultaneously

Thin-Walled Pressure Vessels Vessels having an inner-radius-to-wall-thickness ratio of 10 or more, r/t ≥ 10 Cylindrical Vessels

Spherical Vessels

Problems 8-2 and 8-6

State of stress caused by combined loadings Members subjected to several (one or more) internal : Axial force Shear Force Bending Moment Torsional Moment

State of stress caused by combined loadings Method of Superposition: Based on the principle of superposition Stress distribution due to each loading is determined. Stress distributions of all loadings are superimposed Resultant stress distribution is determined Limits: Linear relationship exist between stress and the loads. Small (insignificant) changes to geometry of member because of the loads.
