Wholeness Body, Mind, and Spirit

Hai *We have talked about getting in the ZONE → we also need health to achieve this wholeness Hai: Anglo Saxon word for health What is health or balance that we need in Body, Mind and Spirit?

Classwork In a group please outline: 1. What is your Body, Mind, Spirit (physical, emotional and spiritual self) 2. What does it look like when your body is in right balance? a. Mind in right balance b. Spirit in in right balance 3. What does it look like when your body is off balance? a. Mind off balance b. Spirit off balance 4. How can we maintain right balance for our body, mind, and spirit?

Body ● Our starting point → it is our temple 1 Corinthians 6:19 -20“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been ought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body” What does this mean for Christians? What does this mean for our society?

Body in Balance Health: what does it mean to be healthy? Health: the state of being free from illness or injury 1. What is the WHO’s definition of health? 2. What are the two broad aspects of health? 3. What is physical wellbeing? 4. Define: structural health, Chemical Health 5. What is mental health? 6. According to the University of East Carolina, what is the definition of wellness? 7. (Page 2) What are the determinants of health?

BMS HW#2 Pick your favorite quote from the quotes on health in the article you just read. 1. Typed assignment, double spaced 2. Identify your quote at the beginning of the paper (including the person) 3. In your own words please explain what you believe this quote to mean 4. How does this quote relate to wholeness of a person (should include definition of wholeness and how this can affect one’s health) 5. Reflect on and discuss how this quote can relate to the wholeness of one’s mind and spirit as well (to be in two separate paragraphs)

Fitness The idea of what constitutes fitness is going through an evolution → More leisure time in recent history because of technological advances make labor intensive chores obsolete.

Body: Imbalance Posture: chronic tension leads to hardening and shortening of connective tissue lowered blood circulation and limited movement *Body needs to be brought back in line in order to get the max out of it → body will resist the change; initiatory period of discomfort 3-4 weeks stabilization period 3-6 months It requires EFFORT *Body also needs fuel : sunlight, fresh air, peaceful environment, affection, and food (NUTRITION: the process of providing or obtaining the food necessary for health and growth)

Body: Balance Relaxation: best single indicator of whole body well being → requires a balance of strength and suppleness (flexibility) Strength: properly used in balance with relaxation controls movement (too much bulk limits movement)

Mind More than just your IQ The areas of emotions, feelings, dreams, intuition, creativity and extra sensory perceptions to name just a few are also very important faculties of the mind. Friend and Enemy: how?

*Illusory Self Concept : It is simply an illusion. Children are free of assumed limitations. As we grow older we become highly influenced by outside sources which for better or worse mold our self image thereby influencing our choices in life. "I'm not interested in doing THAT” we are really feelingà "I can't do well at THAT!" *Fear of Failure : To break this cycle one must make peace with failure. Failure is nothing more than a teacher. We need to appreciate failure. Failure teaches us about our limitations and shows one's potential and greatness *Destructive Self Criticism : Babies are free of self criticism. They treat success the same as failure; they simply experience. The greatest advice for each one of us is to be gentle with ourselves. Think back to being a kid and how care-free we once wereà how society viewed us was not even a part of our cognitive scope *Lack of Focus : Ultimately the mind dissolved in pure attention becomes focused awareness. Pure attention can best be understood as having no distractions. à Listen to classical music J

Creative Visualization : Much of our mind set comes from years and years of negative programming. This programming can be reversed with new programming with the use of our imagination to create a new mind set. Since form follows idea it is necessary to create a whole new outlook by creating a new thinking pattern **The secretà Bagger Vance: once Junuh could visualize his success he achieved it. Start to think of yourself succeeding and you can ACTUALIZE your POTENTIAL If one is willing to give it adequate time change is inevitable. Remember you are creating something new within yourself not simply redoing nor changing what exists, you are creating a new point of view.

Spirit Grasping fully who I am within the context of what I am pursue this indefinitely and passionatelyà seeking your path SELF understandingà deals with the outside REALà originates from the inside moving outward (Lady Gaga article: she knew she wanted to be influential and how she acted outwardly how she felt inwardly) Spirituality deals with a deep realization of the gift we truly are involving growth in awareness of our self, others and beginning to comprehend the God behind it all.
