Gaithersburg middle school as of 10/12/15 752 students: 6th-245, 7th-266, 8th- 241 41% Hispanic 21% White 21% black 8% Asian 5% Multi ethnic

GMS School improvement plan focus Goal 1: Literacy Goal 2: Math Goal 3: Cultural proficiency

Literacy Goals: (1) To increase the percentage of Hispanic and ELL students who score both proficient advanced by 10% and 7% respectively as measured by the MAP-R, (2) to eliminate any regression in overall proficiency for ELLs as measured by the WIDA ACCESS test.

Math Goals: (1) All students currently enrolled in Algebra I will earn a C or better in the course. (2)100 % of students currently in IM will earn a C or better. (3) 100% of students in Math 6 will earn a C or better.

Cultural Proficiency Goals: (1) To increase academic eligibility for Hispanic and ELL students to 94%. (2) To decrease behavior referrals overall.

Student stakeholder focus It was determined that students need staff to identify and remove: Racial and cultural barriers through examination of related beliefs and expectations Instructional barriers through study and implementation of strategies that build background knowledge and promote interaction (SIOP) around academic language
