3 CST Overview The CSTs assess achievement on the state’s academic content standards that specify what students are supposed to learn at each grade level. Scores are reported along five proficiency levels: Far Below Basic, Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, Advanced The state’s target is to have all students score at the Proficient or Advanced level.

16 Percent of Students Passing CAHSEE - 2002-03 and 2003-04: District-County-State Comparison Consistent growth year over year; Significant improvement in Mathematics; District’s performance below county and state passage rates

17 Percent Passing by Ethnicity Continuous improvement apparent for all subgroups; significant achievement disparities between African Americans and Latinos and other ethnic groups

18 Percent Passing by Language Fluency IFEP (Initially Fluent English Proficient) and RFEP (Redesignated Fluent English Proficient) students show passage rates higher than English Only group; English Learners show lowest overall passage rates * 2003-04 statistics based on February 2004 test administration only.
