Kenny’s Animal Classes! 2011-30th-05

Reptiles: Amphibians: Invertebrates: Vertebrates: Mammals: Birds: What are the 6 animal classes? Reptiles: Crawling animals that are cold blooded and lay eggs. Amphibians: Animals that could live in water and land. Invertebrates: Animals with no backbone. Vertebrates: Animals with backbone. Mammals: Animals that lay babies . NOT EGGS Feeds young milk. Birds: A creature that is covered with feathers and has 2 wings an has 2 legs.

Why Have They Been Grouped This Way? In the ancient times people had known that there too many different types of animals in the world. So they grouped the animals into various different types of classes such as: Reptiles, Amphibians, Invertebrates, Vertebrates, Mammals and Birds.

What is different about each of the classes? Reptiles: Animals that have cold blood and skin covered in scales, and that lays eggs. Snakes, crocodiles and turtles are all reptiles. Amphibians: Any animals that can live both on land and in water. Amphibians have cold blood and skin without scales. Frogs, toads and newts are all amphibians. Invertebrates: Animals with no backbone. For example a worm does not have any back bone in its body. Vertebrates: Any animals with a backbone, including all mammals, birds and fish. Mammals: Any creature that lays babies, not eggs, and feeds its young on milk. Cows humans and whales are all mammals. Birds: A creature that is covered with feathers and has 2 wings and 2 legs. Not all birds can fly.
