 A darkened box with a convex lens or aperture for projecting the image of an external object onto a screen inside. It is important historically in the development of photography. CAMERA OBSCURA

 In 1827, Joseph Nicephore Niepce made the first photographic image with a camera obscura. FIRST PHOTOGRAPH

 A photograph taken by an early photographic process employing an iodine-sensitized silver plate and mercury vapor.  The inventors of the Daguerreotype were Louis Daguerre and Nicephore niepce. DAGUERREOTYPE

 A light-sensitive colloid. Most commonly, in silver-gelatin photography it consits of silver halide crystal dispersed in gelatin. The emulsion is usually coated onto a substrate glass, paper fabric, film, ect. GELATIN EMULSION

 Camera obscures used to form images on walls in darkened rooms; image formation via a pinhole.  In the 16 th century, Brightness and clarity of camera obscuras improved by enlarging the hole inserting a telescope lens.  In the early 17 th century, camera obscuras in frequent use by artists and made portable in the form of sedan chairs.  In 1727, professor J. Schulze mixes chalk, acid, and silver in a flask; notices darkening on side of flash exposed to sunlight. ANCIENT TIMES

 In 1800, Thomas Wedgwood made “sun pictures” by placing objects on leather treated with silver nitrate; resulting images deteriorated rapidly however if displayed under light stronger than from candles.  In 1816, Nicephore Niepce combines the camera obscura with photosensitive paper.  In 1826, Niepce creates a permanent image.  In 1827, Joseph Nicephore Niepce made the first photographic image with a camera obscura. 18 TH CENTURY
