Lesson Objective (Lesson 1 - Day 2): Content Objectives: TSWBAT understand the relationship between the role of the government public health organizations and how it affects our everyday lives. Language Objectives: TSWBAT hypothesize and compose what a ‘healthy community’ and ‘public health’ means in their own words. TSWBAT compare and contrast levels of government public health organization and their responsibilities with use of a graphic organizer.

A Healthy Community is….. A group of people living together and making decisions that affect their health, the health of others, & the environment. People in their community must know & follow the public health laws in order to provide for a healthy community.
What is Public Health? Agencies that work to prevent disease & promote the general health of the public. –Government agencies (Local/County, State, National, International) –Private Organizations
Public Health Organizations Public Health organizations can be: –Voluntary (American Red Cross) –Private ( Blue Cross / Blue Shield Health Insurance Company) –Professional (AMA – American Medical Association) –Corporate (Merck)
Government Public Health Local Montgomery Government agency responsible by law for the health & well- being of people in your community, city, county, or township. State Pennsylvania Government agency responsible by law for the health & well- being of people in your state National Department of Heath & Human Services Federal government is responsible for the administration & planning for health.
