Examples: Diary of Anne Frank, The Constitution, Weavings and pottery Secondary A secondary source interprets and analyzes primary sources. These sources are one or more steps removed from the event. Examples: History textbook, journal/magazine article that interprets findings, a book about the effects of WWI

Annotating Your Sources Make sure that you include: A sentence or two that explains the reliability of the source by listing the creator’s credentials. A sentence that summarizes what the source is and a concise overview of its contents. A sentence that explains the value of the source; what it contributes to the project From “Annotated Bibliography” Worksheet

EXAMPLE: Bates, Daisy. The Long Shadow of Little Rock. 1st ed. New York: David McKay Co. Inc., Daisy Bates was the president of the Arkansas NAACP and the one who met and listened to the students each day. Her book contained interviews with the minority students that were first to be integrated into the school district. This first-hand account was very important to my paper because it made me more aware of the feelings of the people involved.

Annotated Bibliography Checklist Is my bibliography line a properly formatted MLA citation? Are my sources in alphabetical order? No bullet points or numbering! Are primary and secondary sources separated into two categories? Summary Paragraphs: Have I explained why the creator(s) of this source is credible? Have I included one sentence that summarizes the content of the sources? Have I provided a sentence for why this source was valuable to my project? From “Annotated Bibliography” Worksheet

Now it’s your turn! Find a source that you have found in your research so far Start creating a bibliography with your sources, split in to primary and secondary sources Sources should be in alphabetical order by last name Make sure they are in MLA format!
