Is That Career For Me? So You know exactly what you want to do after you graduate next year…….or do you?

 Will you love getting up every day and going to work? Or will you hate your job? Do you just want to make money? Or do you just want to enjoy what you do?  In reality, you will spend more hours at work than you do at home and that is why you need to find the RIGHT job for you.

So let’s tip the Scale in your favor by researching to find the career that’s for you.

Task  As a senior in English class, you are to use several resources to answer the question: Is that career for me? After your research, you will produce a written report and an oral presentation based on your career selection.

Process  Select a career to research that interest you and fits your skills. Use the following career research outline as a guide to find out enough information about your chosen career.

Sources  Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) Edition  Career Listings  Careers.Org  Other sources you may find useful to you

Career Research  You will use the information you have collected from your sources to write your career research report. Your paper should be type written, using Times New Roman, and 12 font.  Use the following format to assist you.

Sources  Three outside sources  One of these can be an interview  Periodicals  Books  Company websites  Other internet sites directly related to this career

Title Page  You must have a title page  (Student Name, career research topic, teacher’s name, Date)

Introduction  Includes a brief intro into what the job is and a thesis statement concisely stating the main argument of the paper. (statement that tells us, why you and this line of work are a match. Personal reasons for choice.

Job Description  General nature of the work  Specific duties  Brief history of the career or company  Steps you need to take to get there 1. Personal aptitudes 2. Physical requirements 3. Educational requirements 4. High School Subjects necessary (if any)

Job Description cont.  College  Special schooling  On-the-job training  Necessary application process

Employment Opportunities  Present chances for employment  Future outlook and trend of the field  Advantages and disadvantages  Earnings, rewards other than money  Working conditions  Advancement opportunities

Conclusion  A paragraph summing up the report (there should be no new ideas in this paragraph). You will be summarizing the major points, that were presented in the body of the paper.

AGAIN!  You are to prove to us that you understand what it takes to get into this career community, how to stay in this community and excel, and that you are right for the job!
